Sky's The Limit

Posted: 4th September 2010

I had a plan to write the next instalment of my blog when next I had a good result to talk about. I think that plan was hatched some six months ago, and I now have to admit that it was poorly thought out. No top ten finish has come my way since hence no blog for six months. Rubbish on both fronts I would have to say so I hope that starting to write again may well bring about a turn around in my form.

A general update on things then would be a good place to start.

1.Coach Clive Tucker is still firmly in place. Swing is looking good and I now just have to trust in it more and think about it less.

2. Caddie Vern has moved on to pastures new and been replaced by John Mulrooney (Muller) since Sweden. No weird nickname for Muller as I am scared of him.

3. Trainer Paul Hoskins has overseen a weight gain of 6 pounds. No injuries just a new wardrobe required. This has nothing to do with me at all I am convinced of that.

4. Wife sat next to me on train as I type so that’s got to be good news too.

5. Girlfriend in next carriage, brilliant news.

Highlights on the golf front are very hard to remember other than the fact that I have been crowned the best player in Europe at hitting the ball into the water. My results over the last two years had led me to believe this was true anyway but if you wish to fully understand what I mean then click on this link. www.everyshotimaginable.com

A 64 to open up in Ireland I guess has been the highlight of the summer however we play over four rounds on the European tour so finishing 45th really is not something to shout about. Still on a positive in general my form has been on an upward trend if anything and I am convinced some good results are just around the corner.

The Ryder cup is imminent and the team has been finalized just this week with my former playing partner Paul Casey being the odd one out. To be 8th in the world and not get into the team by right or get a captains pick is unbelievably harsh, however understandable in the circumstances. Someone had to miss out with Molinari winning in brilliant fashion he had to be picked.

Luke was next in line on the world points list and Padraig has his three majors to his name which count for so much. Paul is a great Ryder Cup player and will be missed but Monty has a strong team with many players in great form. Its going to be great with the USA having a bunch of new comers again they will be right up for the challenge.

Never mind the team how about the vice captains, Clarke, Bjorn, Mcginley and Garcia, Monty has certainly got some strong minds there. Its great to see the passion that exists among these stalwarts of the European tour, to try and help to win back the trophy. I really wish I was playing, wouldn’t it be great to be able to say, "Clarky fetch me a tuna Mayo on brown would ya".

Joking aside they will play a big part in inspiring the players to great things I am sure. The team room will be an amazing place to be.

I am looking forward to being part of Sky’s team covering the event this year, the tv work that has come my way has been a lot of fun and a great distraction from my own game.  It’s a real privilege to be able to commentate on the best golf event in the world. Of course I would rather be playing but its not been through a lack of effort that I did not even mount a challenge this time around and to be involved in some way is great.

However if you're worried that my interest in playing is diminishing you could not be more wrong, watch my friends do amazing things in the world of golf only provides me with more determination to get back to where I was and try and follow in their footsteps once again.
