Nice One Rory!

Thirty fifth in Qatar, missed cut in Dubai, not a very satisfactory couple of weeks you would think. Now obviously I would agree however, some times results can be a little misleading. My form in Qatar was not good at all on Thursday however a chat with ISM's new employee, my old friend from the tour Ian Garbutt gave me the confidence to make a slight shift in how I was swinging the club, more mental than anything you would see on camera but it led me to really enjoy my golf over the weekend and a 68 to finish capped off a reasonable week.

In Dubai coach Tucker was in town and a couple of pointers from him helped me to feel the best about my game for a really long time. It came as no surprise when I played the best 9 holes of golf that I have played in a long long time and when I made the turn only at 2 under I was a little disappointed. As it turns out I should not have been because that was as good as it got this week. From the tenth onwards I made a catalogue of errors and missed the cut easily. Funny game golf you know, you just never know what is around the corner. 38 putts is what. 38 putts!! I am normally more likely to have 38 putts in two rounds than I am likely to have 38 putts in one round.  Unbelievable.

Still deep down I think I am on the right track with things which is the most important thing and you know sometimes you just have to put things down to a bad week. Two people who definitely are on the right track are the last two winners. Firstly In Qatar we got another chance to see the longest hitter in golf win in great style, Alvaro Quiros. This guy has never got a smile off his face, probably because he has been hitting the ball over 300 yards since he was about 5 years old, but his carefree attitude to life comes out in his golf and allows him to do amazing things. He is going to continue to win many tournaments as when he is hot he can just demolish a golf course.

Our latest winner is  already a star in many ways and has the world at his feet. Not many people have the natural ability to be one of the best players in the world but Rory Mcilroy is one of them. 19 years old and already having a ton of experience in his short career his next step was to get across the winning line. When he was 5 in front with 5 to play it looked like it might just be an exhibition but once again golf proved just how hard it is finish off a tournament and would you know it Rory had to hole a 4 foot putt to win. He did it and when he looks back at his career I am sure he will realise just how important it was. Winning by one is the hardest thing to do and I am sure their will be no looking back for him now.

Our new Ryder cup captain Monty will be rubbing his hands together at the thought of these two guys being in his team. Wales is a long way off still, and the points race is yet to start of course but Colin will be thinking about the Ryder cup until the day it is finished, hopefully with his hands on the trophy. Having seen Monty in two team rooms it is obvious that he will make a great captain. Hopefully my captain.

The Jockey has started to get in a huff about his treatment in this blog so I am going to lay off him this week, besides he has not been up to much recently, just working on those muscles every evening. His hair has yet to see a pair of scissors and his calves still need some work I am informed but apart from that you will be glad to know he is just fine.

A week of practice and gym work for me before I head to Malaysia and Perth to get this career of mine heading in the right direction so until then take care and thanks for reading.
