David has decided to miss the Italian Open (May 7-10) in order to give his side strain more time to heal. The Swindon golfer, whose career has been plagued by an assortment of injuries, suffered the latest problem lifting something at home. He travelled to Girona for the Spanish Open (Apr 30-May 3) but withdrew after playing nine holes in practice.

Howell now hopes to return at the Irish Open on May 14-17. We wish David a speedy recovery.
